The 1997 romantic comedy and Hollywood classic "My Best Friend's Wedding" is set to receive a Chinese flare as China Film Co. Ltd. and Sony's Columbia Pictures decided to make a remake of the film.
The upcoming remake will have a stellar cast, including actress Hsu Chi.
The original box-office hit was helmed by P.J. Hogan and starred Hollywood A-listers Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz. The movie had a worldwide gross of $299 million.
The critically acclaimed film was also named as one of 1997's biggest titles. It is considered as one of Roberts's two most popular projects, the other being the romance film, "Pretty Woman."
"My Best Friend's Wedding" earned nominations from various prestigious award-giving bodies, such as the Golden Globe Award, BAFTA and Academy Awards.
The story revolves around a restaurant critic who came to know through her guy best friend that he is marrying someone else. Years earlier, the two had an agreement that if they are not still married before turning 28, they will marry each other. Conflict comes when the main character intently sabotages the wedding.
The Chinese version of the movie will be directed by Alexi Tan. Other cast members include Feng Shaofeng, Song Qian and Ye Qing. It will be shot in Beijing, Italy and London.
If the invitations will be acknowledged, the remake will have Spain's Alvaro Gutierrez and Italy's Ernesto Mameli as its cinematography and art directors, respectively.
The upcoming remake will start filming this month in London. It will hit Chinese theaters on Feb. 14, 2016.
