With Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" grabbing the top spot of the box office last weekend, Michael Douglas has stated his enthusiasm to reprise his role in an "Ant-Man" sequel.

Douglas is playing the role of Dr. Hank Pym in the superhero film. In his interview with Wall Street Journal, the actor said that it would be countless and delightful if an "Ant-Man" sequel comes about; however, he has not picked up any plans about it.

For Douglas, he found working with the "Ant-Man" cast and crew members a gratifying and diverse experience, since he had not gotten a prior involvement with the same film structure. He also mentioned that along with his fascination with the special effects, being part of "Ant-Man" was more than a huge opportunity.

It is assumed that an "Ant-Man" sequel will follow, similar to the path of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy," which is also a much lesser known action sci-fi film in Marvel's Cinematic Universe. However, its lighter tone and its cast and crew made an appeal to the audience. Now, the film is going to have a sequel entitled "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which will premiere in 2017.

"Ant-Man" serves as the transition of Marvel's Phase Two to Phase Three and Marvel's tiniest superhero will be back in Joe Russo and Anthony Russo's upcoming "Captain America: Civil War." With this knowledge, it is possible for Douglas' character to be included in Marvel's future films, according to International Business Times.

While Reed's superhero film has made a modest gross last weekend, coupled with positive response from critics and moviegoers, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm its plans of having a sequel.

Douglas is playing the role of Pym. "Ant-Man" also stars Paul Rudd as the titular superhero, Evangeline Lily, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, Hayley Atwell, John Slattery, Stan Lee, Bobby Cannavale, and Anthony Mackie, among others.

Reed's "Ant-Man" is showing in theaters.
