Android fans might just get a glimpse of what the Google Nexus 2015 will be on release date or at least a variant of it on September 2. Reports say the 6-inch Huawei Mate 8 will make a landfall on the same day via the IFA 2015 in Berlin.
According to Phone Arena, the Mate 8 is almost certain to appear on the yearly gadget trade show in Germany. Huawei touts the Mate 8 arrival, which will bump off last year's Ascend Mate 7, as an event that will "bring you a taste of the flagship flagship."
And flagship indeed the Huawei phone is if the rumored specs of the device are to be believed. The display would reportedly boast of a Quad HD 2K panel while under the hood, the main engine is the very able Kirin 950 chip that works with 4GB of RAM.
The camera package, according to Trusted Reviews, is composed of a 20.7MP shooter on rear and 8MP front cam - a system that should please both camera enthusiast and selfie fanatics. Basic internal memory is 64GB while the battery pack is at massive 4100mAh.
But that really excites about the Mate 8 is the high possibility that this will be same model from which the Nexus Angler will be built around. That is provided that Huawei, rumored as one of the Nexus 2015 builders, will base its take on Nexus after its flagship the way LG did with the Nexus 4 and 5. LG, incidentally, is also rumored to assemble one of the Nexus 2015 models, the smaller 5.2-inch Nexus Bullhead.
If the Mate 8 will end up as the Angler, Google will have to effect some modifications. For one, the Kirin chip will likely give way to Snapdragon 820, which has been reported to score 85,000 plus in an AnTuTu benchmark test.
And the screen size will likely shrink a bit, from 6-inch to 5.7-inch as Google may want to correct the one perceived mistake of Motorola Nexus 6 - a supersized panel that most Android fans did not appreciate.
At any rate, the Huawei Mate 8 becoming the pattern for the Nexus Angler seems to make sense. What it is a suit with prevailing rumors - it is a Huawei device, it is phablet-size and it has superior specs that most likely will fit Google's requirements for the next Nexus.
More importantly, the Mate availability in early September is perfectly in line with the rumored release date of the Nexus 2015. The Google flagships, both from Huawei and LG, are said to debut between late September and early October alongside Android M.
