"Jurassic World" is ready to follow up its box office success with another sequel lined up in the near future.
After the success of the latest "Jurassic Park" film, which saw them earn $1.522 billion and become the third biggest box office hit of all time behind 2009 film "Avatar" ($2.788 billion) and 1997 film "Titanic" (2.186 billion), Universal Studios is already preparing a sequel which will also feature Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as lead stars for the movie, CBS News reported.
The planned sequel is scheduled to release on June 22, 2018 with Steven Spielberg as executive producer under Amblin Entertainment. It is also expected that Colin Trevorrow, director of "Jurassic World" and Derek Connolly will co-write the screenplay for the upcoming movie.
The "Jurassic World" which is the fourth film in the "Jurassic Park" series destroyed several records in the movie industry while the film is showing, Variety reported. A list of their records include; Highest-grossing weekend of all time, Highest grossing weekend for international and domestic, Biggest domestic June debut, Biggest PG-13 rated film debut, Fastest film to $200 million, and Universal's highest grossing film for international and domestic weekend.
The presence of Pratt who is the star of the hit movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy," helped the movie to become popular. Pratt was originally recruited by Trevorrow during his shoot with the Marvel movie via Skype. There were also factors that were in favor of "Jurassic World" such as nostalgia and cross-generational appeal.
Howard said that they wanted to create a movie for the people who were young when the original movie came out and would love the current movie now as an adult. Jeff Bock, exhibitor relations analyst, said that he does not think that anyone would thought that the "Jurassic World" would be record breaking.
Bock also added that the movie became successful because there is intrigue from the viewers of all ages as they wanted to see and learn more about dinosaurs who roamed the world one time. This could be the reason why superheroes are no match for dinosaurs, according to Bock.
The first installment of the dinosaur sci-fi series is the "Jurassic Park" back in 1993, which is based from Michael Crichton's book. It was also a box office hit and became the highest grossing film at that time, surpassing "E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. The first movie earned $1.03 billion worldwide but was later surpassed by the "Titanic" film in 1997.
