"Fallout" fans had a grand time over at Quakecon as developer Bethesda took the stage to showcase a new demo for "Fallout 4." The event has revealed a number of new details about the game along with a couple of interesting aspect and mechanics.
Game Director Todd Howard gave a few new hints as to how the progression for characters will work in "Fallout 4." For instance, the SPECIAL system will make a comeback in this year's iteration. This system consists of seven areas that can impact the overall development of the character, based on seven factors, including strength, perception, endurance, charism, intelligence, agility and luck, Polygon reported.
The SPECIAL system works via unlocking different abilities, all of which are linked to the stats mentioned above. Depending on which stat is strengthened in the character via unlocks and points, the more perks for each stat one can use when leveling up. All in all, each perk can have 10 base perks each.
As far as Preston Garvey, one of the identified characters appearing in "Fallout 4" is concerned, it appears that he will be the leader of the Commonwealth Minute men. In the game, there are 12 available companions, with Garvey can be one of the player's companion, the others that are also classified as companions including Piper, Mr. Handy and Dogmeat the dog. However, in the actual "Fallout 4" gameplay, players can only have one companion at a time.
When dealing with these companions, situations can even lead to romance. But Howard warned beforehand that these romances can only include human companions. One bonus is that it can be with a human companion of either gender.
Interestingly, there is one aspect of the game that Bethesda is keeping under tight wraps. This may have something to do with the repair system, PC Gamer reported. In the "Fallout" franchise, the condition of the character and a weapon can be influenced by a number of factors, including disorders, disabilities and sickness. To tell the condition of the character or the weapon, "Fallout" has the CND meter.
According to the report, the footage shown way back in E3 2015 was missing, which put into question the possible removal of the repair system. However, this may not be the case, given that Bethesda's Pete Hines had explicitly stated that the team is not yet ready to discuss these matters.
Hines had stated this after being confronted with the missing CND meter. Fans should note that Hines's response hints that there will be something that they will be talking about in the near future, once the reveal plans are in place. And according to the source, the lack of a confirmation that the repair system is now gone pertains to a possible improvement to the system.
