With Scott Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" hitting the big screen next year, "The Notebook" actress Rachel McAdams has confirmed that she is up for a role in the upcoming Marvel film.
In her interview with Los Angeles Times, McAdams said that it was still early to tell and she did not know where playing the female lead in "Doctor Strange" would go and if it was going to a certain path at all.
McAdams is reported to play the role of Clea, an enchantress who becomes romantically attached with the titular superhero. She is also the niece of Dormammu, the Lord of the Dark Realm and Doctor Strange's utmost enemy. With the actress considering the role in Derrickson's upcoming "Doctor Strange," her final decision is yet to be revealed.
Playing a female lead in Marvel's Cinematic Universe entails a "multi-picture" package deal that sets McAdams to appear not only in Derrickson's Doctor Strange, but also in other possible new films or sequels that may involve her character, as per Cinema Blend.
McAdams is known for her roles in various films and television shows, such as Mark Water's comedy film "Mean Girls," Guy Ritchie's action-crime "Sherlock Holmes," Woody Allen's romance-comedy "Midnight in Paris," and Richard Curtis' romance drama "About Time."
Aside from being up for a role in "Doctor Strange," McAdams is also reported to appear in Arthur Conan Doyle and Drew Pearce's action-thriller "Sherlock Holmes 3" and in Tom McCarthy's thriller "Spotlight."
Along with McAdams, "Doctor Strange" also stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular superhero and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo. Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" is set to premiere on Nov. 4, 2016.
