Manchester United and Barcelona have started discussing the potential transfer of Spanish forward Pedro from La Liga to the Premiere League next season, as reported by Fox Sports.
United manager Louis van Gaal reportedly deems the 27-year-old winger as the seamless replacement for disgruntled striker Ángel Di María, who is set to move to Paris Saint-Germain for £45 million.
Di María was acquired by Gaal last summer from Real Madrid in a deal worth £59.7 million, which became the British single transfer record. The Argentina international never got his game going with United and personal problems regarding adjustment to life in England pushed the footballer to request a transfer.
With Di María on the way out, van Gaal is left with team captain Wayne Rooney as his only legitimate scorer in the roster.
Latest reports from the Mirror said that the Red Devils have already offered £23 million to Barça for Pedro and the Camp Nou residents were said to be amenable to the bid.
Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué openly admitted that the team will be weaker without the Spanish spitfire as he was the main substitute for the forward trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suárez.
However, rumors arose that the reality and frustration of being a substitute are what really forced Pedro to desire to be transferred.
At Old Trafford, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife native will certainly play more first team football as van Gaal have lost forwards Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao this summer.
Other teams who are said to be interested in Pedro's services are Liverpool and Premiere League champions Chelsea. But it is United who has one foot inside the door of Barça.
