In this off-season, another pair of brothers in the league have split up. After Marcus and Markieff Morris of the Phoenix Suns parted ways, Zoran Dragic of the Miami Heat is now on the way to Boston leaving his older brother Goran in the Miami Heat backcourt.
Incidentally, the Dragic brothers were first brought together in Phoenix as well.
The report was first tweeted by Dan LeBatard of ESPN. Apparently, the trade has the blessing of Goran Dragic, the Miami Heat's newly minted franchise point guard. ESPN notes: "The trade did not upset Goran Dragic, who is hoping his brother will get more chances at playing time in Boston."
However, getting more chances is another question altogether. The Boston Celtics roster is all filled out and it's overflowing with guards. Expected to lead the rotation is Isiah Thomas, also a former Sun, Avery Bradley and the Celtics first round pick last year, Marcus Smart.
Boston GM Danny Ainge still dipped his hands into the guard mill in this year's draft when he picked Terry Rozier and RJ Hunter, both in the first round. Rounding out the Celtics small guys is Evan Turner.
NBC Sports mentioned that Zoran might get squeezed out: "The Celtics might not even keep Zoran. Boston now has 17 players with guaranteed contracts, and Zoran ranks pretty low on the value list."
Looks like Zoran Dragic has his work cut out for him this training camp, as opposed to his brother who recently committed to the Miami Heat with a whopping $ 90 million, 5-year contract. The Heat are actively trying to assemble a team that will make the Eastern Conference Playoffs after the post-LeBron James era
