Ethan Hunt, the actor's character, had on a rubber headpiece, glasses, gloves, black jacket, T-shirt, pants and boots on while he was suspended from the ceiling in a heist scene when he broke into the CIA headquarters. After he escaped being detected by the spy agency's high-tech alarm system, Hunt stole a list of CIA's secret agents.

The auction is scheduled on September 10 at Christie's in South Kensington, London. It is part of Christie's Out of the Ordinary auction, reports the Irish Examiner. But people who want to see the costume could visit the auction house in Old Brampton Road beginning August 3.

Other items for auction, such as the running shoes of Roger Bannister that he wore in his first below four-minute mile race in 1954, are also on display.

Cruise, 53, made five "Mission: Impossible" films. "Mission: Impossible II" dominated summer of 2000 because it was "the last time that a real-world, non-fantastical action movie" was shown, notes Forbes.

The fifth one, "Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation," will be shown beginning Thursday. Cruise's next movie is "Mena," directed by Doug Luman. The actor again plays again aviator who worked for the CIA in the 1980s and gets involved in the war against drugs.

Forbes notes that what sets Cruise apart from other action heroes like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger is that "he became the biggest movie star on the planet by making dramas and/or the kind of thrillers that emphasized suspense and character over bloodshed and special effects."
