British singer Ed Sheeran recently landed a role in the upcoming FX series "The Bastard Executioner."
According to BBC America, the series will chronicle the life of a 14th century soldier who eventually becomes a traveling executioner. The script for the series will be written by "Sons of Anarchy" writer Kurt Sutter.
Meanwhile, Sheeran previously revealed that he is a huge "Sons of Anarchy" fan and he even recorded a special cover of the song "Let It Rain" for the show. With this, Sutter immediately thought of the "Thinking Out Loud" singer when he was writing the script.
In other news, The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that Sheeran will play the role of Sir Cormac, a high-profile and ambitious protégé of a renowned church leader. He will be working alongside "True Blood" star Stephen Meyer and "Sons of Anarchy" star Katey Sagal.
Other cast members will include Lee Jones and Flora Spencer-Longhurst. Sutter will also reportedly make a cameo in the series, the same way that he previously appeared on "Sons of Anarchy" and "The Shield." "The Bastard Executioner" is executive produced by Paris Barclay and Brian Grazer. The former also serves as the series' director.
According to some publications, "The Bastard Executioner" could be "The Game of Thrones'" biggest rival because both shows tackle almost the same topic. The former is currently filming its first few episodes in the U.K. and will premiere on FX later this year.
Other than his upcoming stint on television, Sheeran has also received a number of awards as a singer. In 2014, he was named as the most streamed artist in the world on Spotify.
