Jon Watts has revealed that Tom Holland's Spider-Man incarnation will be a lot different from the character's predecessors.
In his interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote his thriller film "Cop Car" with Kevin Bacon, Watts said that Holland could portray Peter Parker as a high school student, which was a reason why people find the iconic friendly superhero adorable.
Watts also mentioned that Holland was a perfect fit for the role as he could show a kind of Spider-Man who is witty and relatable, among other superheroes, not to mention that the "The Impossible" actor can execute side and back flips.
According to Cinema Blend, Marvel considers age as a vital element of the superhero casting due to the young characterization and high school plot in the upcoming film.
Before Marvel and Sony selected Holland as the next Spider-Man, the studios had considered several actors for the role, including "The Killing" star Liam James, "Interstellar" actor Timothée Chalament, "The Fault in Our Stars" star Nat Wolff, and "Ender's Game" actor Asa Butterfiled, among others.
Watts is set to helm the film while John Francis Dailey and Jonathan M. Goldstein are on board to pen the script of the upcoming superhero film. The writers previously revealed that their version of Spider-Man will be cunning and entertaining, despite of the character being a bore and a loner. They also revealed that Holland's Spider-Man will not show any dancing moves unlike Tobey Maguire's version.
Watts' "Spider-Man" film is slated to premiere on July 28, 2017 while his "Cop Car" film is set to hit theaters on Aug. 7.
