China is making another daring move in being recognized around the world in the field of science and technology. Even prior to the Kepler telescope's recent discovery of an Earth-like planet, Chinese scientists and technicians have long found inspiration for more discovery by expanding the human ears' capability to listen.
In a valley in Guizhou Province, a large hollow one can drive around for almost two hours has been fitted with steel cables and pillars. This will become China's own radio telescope that will be used to pick up interstellar "chatter" and decode these cosmic messages.
Started in 2011, the project will be finished around Sept. 2016. It will overtake the diameter of Puerto Rico's 305m Arecibo Observatory and Germany's steerable telescope in sensitivity. Officially named the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (the FAST), China's largest astronautics project measures 500m in diameter and senses 10 times better.
