In a reversal of a Christian teaching "Hate the sin, not the sinner," producers of the iconic and groundbreaking "The Cosby Show" hope the program would still have a special place in the hearts of TV viewers despite it being tainted by rape accusations against Bill Cosby.
The show changed the landscape of television which benefitted from the actor's collaboration, said Tom Werner and Marcy Carsey, producers of the award-winning sitcom shown in the 1980s. The two admit that recent news reports about the star of the show are beyond their knowledge or comprehension.
Because of the sex scandals, TV networks that air the reruns of "The Cosby Show" have cancelled the scheduled broadcast. In response to these developments, Werner said, "Certainly it's a challenge right now. But I'm hoping that time will pass and that all the great acting and the great stories and the memorable moments will still be able to be viewed," quotes Starpulse.
On Friday, Monique Pressley, the lawyer of Cosby, told HuffPost that the accusations against the comedian does not exist due to lack of evidence since the alleged crime was not reported to authorities. But she emphasized that she is not victim-blaming.
Pressley said, "I'm not speculating, I'm not thinking, I'm not opining, I'm not waxing poetic, but what I'm saying is women have responsibility. We have responsibilities for our bodies, we have responsibility for our decisions, we have responsibility for the way we conduct ourselves."
Publicly complaining against Cosby 40 years after the alleged rapes took place is tantamount to a witch hunt because of the lack of timely prosecution and civil suit. She added that no one had bound, prevented or gagged the 35 women, who were featured in the cover of New York Magazine, from coming forward and accusing Cosby at that time.
According to Law Street, statutory limitation laws for rape of sexual assault charges in 34 states and Washington DC range from three to 30 years. Cosby's case has cause a demand for questioning the validity of those law which former Texas Senator Wendy Davis proposed in 2014 to be eliminated for rape and sexual battery cases.
