It seems like the much awaited "Half Life 3" release has just been confirmed, but it is unlikely to happen anytime soon, as the game development is reportedly happening at a snail's pace.
Valve is technically working on the next game in the "Half Life" series, but only with a "skeleton crew of about 10 people," according to Design and Trend that cites the industry rumor mongers at The Know.
The Know has history of genuine leaks, given the credibility of the first screenshots of "Dark Souls 3," and the release date prediction for "Rise of the Tomb Raider" PS4 and PC release.
According to sources cited by The Know, the script, story and gameplay in the "Half Life 3" are completed, and the game is yet to enter full production, as Valve is said to have moved the developers from the title to other projects. However, the upcoming game was well into development around 5-6 years back, by 2009, with a team of around 100 people. But, Valve moved the staff to other games to be released soon.
The report also mentions Bioware's "Mass Effect 3," which suffered a huge backlash from the fans, as a critical factor for Valve shifting the developers to other projects. The Know's sources also claims that Valve Management also commonly refers to the "ME3" game stating that they did not want anything like that to happen to the company's banner franchise.
"Half-Life" writer Marc Laidlaw neither confirmed nor denied the report, but said in a response to a email from a Reddit user that "I can’t comment on Valve’s internal process, but it sounds like someone is trolling. Anonymous sources have been posting speculation masquerading as inside knowledge since the Half-Life 1 delay in 1997. If it’s any comfort, please rest assured that in my experience at Valve, fear is the last thing that would ever drive a decision about what to work on."
Nevertheless, Valve is yet to officially confirm anything related to “Half Life 3” release.
