United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Special Envoy Angelina Jolie made the most of her recent humanitarian trip to Myanmar. She accepted the invitation of Nobel laureate Myanmar's democratic icon Aung San Suu Kyi, and they visited a factory where they had a chance to converse with female workers.
Jolie has been touching base with global representatives and decision-makers seeking ways to address displacement of people across the world. The 40-year-old actress and film director has been involved with humanitarian work for many years. The international organization expanded her role as special envoy to the UN Refugee Agency in 2012.
In Myanmar, Brad Pitt's significant other visited Kachin State, where thousands of displaced people have stayed since armed conflict ensued between the Myanmar government forces and ethnic rebel groups in 2011. She then visited the largest city in Myanmar, Yangon, where she was joined by Opposition Leader Suu Kyi to see first-hand how women in the area lived in destitute conditions, The Telegraph reported.
Jolie had earlier expressed how she looked forward to meeting up close and personal displaced individuals, including women and children, along with civil society groups, with pressing concerns and hopes for a better future, People reported. She previously visited Cambodia to check on projects of the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
The coverage of Jolie's endeavors got online trolls wagging their tongues again, highlighting negative things about the actress. Nonetheless, she remains one of a handful of Hollywood A-listers actively involved in advocating for change or assistance for those displaced by conflict.
