Paramount Pictures Vice Chairman Rob Moore has expressed his delight as he ratifies the recent revelation on a sequel for Christopher McQuarrie's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation."
In his interview with Variety, Moore said that he and the distributing studio were very glad to create "Mission: Impossible 6" with lead actor Tom Cruise, who is playing the role of Ethan Hunt. Moore added that the recent achievement of McQuarrie's action film highly suggests that Hunt is worthy of another film.
Playing the role of agent Hunt, Cruise previously told Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" about the sixth installment of the "Mission Impossible" franchise. The actor and the production team are starting to work on the sequel and filming is set to commence next summer.
"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" topped the weekend box office with a domestic gross of $56 million on its opening weekend. After its release on July 31, McQuarrie's film has got an estimated gross of $121 million in a global scale. This is 40 percent more than Paramount's opening weekend forecast of $40 million.
McQuarrie's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" goes second to John Woo's "Mission: Impossible II," which grossed an estimated $57.8 million on its opening weekend in 2000. According to Screen Rant, it was a brilliant move to release date the franchise's fifth installment to July 31, from the original December release date, as competition for the film is unlikely.
Aside from Cruise, the film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin, and Sean Harris, among others.
McQuarrie's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" is showing in theaters while the release date of the "Mission: Impossible" follow-up film is yet to be announced. Watch the trailer here:
