Kate Tsui has announced that she plans to leave Hong Kong TV station TVB and indefinitely put her acting career on hold.
Tsui made an appearance at an event in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, on Wednesday to make the announcement and explain her reasons.
"The company and I have reached an agreement about this because I need time to allow myself to rest," Tsui said.
With regards to Tsui's plans when her contract expires, she says they are still unconfirmed.
"I'm currently studying a course in jewelry design, but I may try out something new in future. For now, I just plan to stop acting," Tsui said. She also mentioned that different agencies have already talked to her about signing on, but she has not confirmed anything and plans to focus on her studies for now.
The 36-year-old has been acting for 11 years with TVB ever since she won the title of Miss Hong Kong in 2004. She has been nominated for the Best Actress Award a total of six times during the TVB Anniversary Awards for her roles in films like "Bounty Lady," "The Beauty of the Game" and "La Femme Desperado" without ever winning any of them.
When asked about her awards and whether they played a role in her decision, Tsui said, "Awards aren't everything. After starring in all these movies, I feel that it's time for me to try out a different job."
Tsui's announcement followed the departures of several talents, like Louise Lee, Raymond Lam, Joey Meng and Myolie Wu, from TVB within the last few years.
Many talents that previously signed with TVB have chosen not to renew their contracts after they expired. With previous talent departures, like that of Myolie Wu, there have been speculations of TVB talent being dissatisfied with how they are being managed.
