Last July, the number of new energy vehicles produced by Chinese automakers reached 20,400, a figure 3.5 times higher than the same period last year, according to official data.
The data, released on Wednesday, showed that the increase comes after the government's heightened efforts to promote the particular sector.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the sector was able to manufacture 12,345 energy passenger vehicles and 8,045 new energy commercial vehicles last month--a whopping 159-percent and 677-percent increase, respectively.
Adding the data in July, the cumulative total of new energy vehicles for this year has already reached 98,900. This statistic is 300 percent higher than the units produced in the first seven months of 2014.
However, the ministry did not disclose figures about the sales performance of the new energy vehicle sector.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Commerce announced that the country will carry on its endeavor of building charging facilities across cities, in support to the surge in new energy vehicle sales and production.
The commerce ministry also said that it will continue to allow subsidies as well as tax exemptions on the purchase of this kind of environmental-friendly mobile.
In March this year, the Ministry of Transport said that it eyes to have 300,000 new energy commercial vehicles in five years' time; of which, 200,000 are new energy buses, while 100,000 are new energy taxis and delivery vehicles.
In 2014, statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that the production of new energy vehicles reached 78,499 units, still a significant increase from 2013 figures.
