"Spider-Man" director Jon Watts has said that his upcoming film will be another "indie."
In his interview with Indiewire to promote his film "Cop Car," Watts said that he had always desired to make a film with coming-of-age as a concept. The director also added that working on his own and fresh ideas with the upcoming film featuring the iconic superhero give him excitement. For the director, having more budget for a large film will not affect his work ethics as a filmmaker.
Watts also told Coming Soon that when he was young, he loved Spider-Man as a character. He said that he had a Spider-Man comic book, which had panels where he could creatively fill in the events that he wanted to happen in the story. The director added that it finds staying in the office and reading Spider-Man comics enjoyable.
Recently, Watts' upcoming film has been rumored to feature Kraven the Hunter as the film's villain, along with Vulture and Scorpion. No announcement yet has been made on who will play Kraven; however, "Titanic" actor Billy Zane and "American Pie" actor Jason Biggs were reported to play the roles of Vulture and Scorpion, respectively.
Tom Holland is playing the role of the web-slinger. With Watts directing the upcoming film, John Francis Dailey and Jonathan M. Goldstein are set to write the script. Although a bore and an introvert, Watts' version of Spider-Man will be amusing and wily according to writers.
"Cop Car" is hit the theaters on Aug. 7, while his upcoming "Spider-Man" film is set to premiere in theaters on July 28, 2017.
