Rumors are doing the rounds that the tech giant Google will release, for the first time, two Nexus smartphones in 2015, one manufactured by the electronics maker LG and the other manufactured by the Chinese mobile manufacturer Huawei.
The Nexus 6, which was released last year, had a major flaw: its size. Not all Nexus lovers want a Nexus phablet, and particularly not an expensive one. Several people still wanted a newer Nexus smartphone at a more reasonable price and size.
Furthermore, Google's new operating system Android M introduces a variety of new features, such as major hardware changes, that will likely be seen in the forthcoming Huawei and LG smartphones. USB Type-C ports and fingerprint sensors cannot be fitted to old hardware retroactively, and the search giant Google must use them in its own devices so that users, OEMs and developers can get a complete view of what Android M is capable of.
Google may have chosen to make two distinct Nexus handsets in 2015 to address all these matters (complete support for new Android innovations, price ranges and phone size).
Also, according to a Business Korea report, the search giant will launch two Nexus smartphones due to Android Pay. Android pay is Google's mobile payment system.
Reports suggest that Google has chosen the Huawei and LG for their experience in different markets. The LG-made Nexus smartphone will come with Android Pay installed - and its launch is anticipated to coincide with rollout of Android Pay - and the tech company Google wants to use brand recognition and success of LG in Europe and North America to help promote the payment system.
While Huawei is known in Europe and America, it has far greater recognition in Asia and China. Google wants help of Huawei to gain more power in China, where many of its services are not accessible. The mobile payment system Android Pay is not likely to work in China, and, thus, a Nexus smartphone with it as standard possibly would not be sold there.
So far, the mobile manufacturer LG has not made any moves into the mobile payments world. On the other hand, the South Korea-based Samsung is in the final stages of producing its own mobile payments system called Samsung Pay. This puts Samsung out of the running to manufacture a Nexus smartphone dedicated to Android Pay,
According to GizmoChina, the LG-made Nexus 5 (2015) will be released in the month of October. The upcoming device will have USB Type C, a 3,180 mAh battery, 5.2″ 1080p P-OLED panel and 4 GB of RAM. Also, the handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 620.
