Motorola has introduced the Moto X 2015 recently and one notable feature of the flagship device is it runs on pure Android, all the more making it as a slightly smaller twin of the Google Nexus 6. Yet while the two devices are nearly identical the new Moto X delivered on upgrades to overwhelm the 2014 Google bet.
The specs and features that Motorola will deploy with the third Moto X instalment on September revealed many advantages the device has over the Nexus 6. Five of them are provided below:
Handset profile hits the sweet spot
The biggest gripe about the Nexus 6 is its oversized profile that afforded more viewing space and navigational touch screen room but not without a downside. For many Android fans, using the biggest Nexus phone ever felt awkward hence it never really clicked.
With the Moto X 2015, Motorola seems to correct this slip by shrinking the screen size a bit to 5.7-inch - a tad higher than the iPhone 6 Plus and like the same with the rumored Galaxy Note 5. The new Moto X obviously jumped into the phablet bandwagon but remained mindful of one key element - ease of use, which the Nexus overlooked.
And it should be noted that while the Moto X display is smaller compared to the Nexus 6, it renders in glorious 2K resolution with pixel density of 520 pixels per inch. The latter on the other hand is also a 2K handset but with relatively lower screen pixel endowment at 493ppi.
More capable Snapdragon chip
When the Nexus 6 was unboxed in November 2014, it was indeed a monster that packs a quad-core 32-bit Snapdragon 805 processor that clocks at top-speed of 2.7GHz. But the muscle car that it is seemed already a history as the Moto X 2015 boasts of a hexa-core Snapdragon chip that is in 64-bit mobile computing configuration with 3GB of RAM (same as the Nexus 6). Such package suggests that the device will hit the mark in the capability department not to mention fast and snappy performance.
Insane camera features
If megapixel really matters then the new Moto X has the right mix, its system sporting a 21MP rear shooter and 5MP on front. The Nexus 6 rocks a combo of 13MP on main and 2MP on secondary but in today's standard the new Motorola device will easily win a shooting war.
3 storage configurations plus microSD slot
The Moto X 2015 will sit on store shelves in three memory configurations - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The Nexus 6 is offered in 32GB and 64GB variants but the former has the edge of having a memory card slot for expansion purposes. And the option to expand given by Motorola goes as high as 128GB, leaving the Nexus 6 eating dust in this respect.
Lower pricing
And when the buying decision boils down to the price tag concerns, the Moto X 2015 wins again with a starting price of $399 on release date this coming September (at least for the Moto X Pure Edition that is geared in the U.S. market). Introduced at a pricey $650 tag, the Nexus 6 cash setback now stands at $499 on Google Play Store, which remains far from tempting.
