"True Detective" Season 2 finale ended with a major cliffhanger. There is no clarity on whether there will be a Season 3 for the HBO's crime drama. However, the network seems interested in renewing the show for more instalments.
Speaking at the 2015 Television Critics Association Press Tour, the HBO president Michael Lombardo revealed that the network is open to the idea of "True Detective" Season 3 and more. But the decision depends solely on one thing and that is if the show's writer Nic Pizzolatto wants it.
"I didn't believe this season or the last season was intended for as big an audience as we're getting. We're getting 12 million viewers an episode. I'm enormously proud of it," Lombardo said in praise of "True Detective" Season 2 as quoted by Zap2it.
"If he wanted to do another season, I told him our door is open. I'd love to do another season with him. ... I think he's an enormously talented writer, and I have already called him and said, 'Nic, if you want to do a Season 3, let's start talking.'"
HBO's boss revealed that he believes Nic Pizzolatto's work is "much bolder and braver" and "satisfying" for him. He will "happily" do more business with him.
So, while fans wait for confirmation, several media outlets are speculating that "True Detective" will return for Season 3 with a star-studded cast. But details remain unknown.
Meanwhile, Christian Today speculates that if "True Detective" gets a Season 3 it is possible that it will premiere in 2016 or even 2017. It is noted that the second season of the anthology series premiered 18 months after the pilot season opened.
