Video-sharing website iQiyi attains phenomenal success with “Evil Minds” and “The Lost Tomb.”
Crime-drama “Evil Minds” has so far been viewed some 600 million times since its launch in May, reported Shanghai Daily.
Directed by Wu Bai and produced and written by Gu Xiaobai, it stars Chen Ruo-Xuan, Fu Mei and Wang Long-Zheng.
Gu co-wrote Zhang Yimou’s 2007 romance-drama, “Under the Hawthorn Tree,” with Yin Lichuan.
Twenty-year-old Chen plays Fang Mu, a crime psychology expert who teams up with police officer Tai Wei-Lian, played by 35-year-old Wang, in investigating a series of murder incidents.
The site requires a VIP membership to be able to view the full episodes.
Action-adventure “The Lost Tomb” (“The Grave Robbers' Chronicles”) began airing in June and has since been viewed more than a billion times, reported Rapid TV News.
Based from Xu Lei’s online novel, “Daomu Biji,” Zheng Bao Rui directs the popular series with 33-year-old Xu as screenwriter.
Its lead star is 28-year-old Li Yifeng (male lead in He Jiong’s 2015 directorial debut, “Forever Young”), who plays antique shop owner Wu Xie. Coming from a family of tomb raiders, he sets out on a string of adventures together with his comrades.
According to Singapore-based video streaming site Viki, which airs the episodes for viewers outside China, Li’s companions are played by Ken Chang as the “experienced” Wu San Xing, Liu Tian Zuo as the “resourceful” Wang Pang Zi, Tiffany Tang as the “skilfull” Ah Ning, Wei Wei as Xing’s “loyal” aide Pan Zi, and Yang Yang as the “quiet” Zhang Qi Ling.
