Microsoft appears to be preparing for the rumored Surface Pro 4 release date in October 2015 as reports from Asia indicate that the software giant has placed and finalized its orders for a "Surface 2-in-1," device that will be delivered anytime in the fourth quarter of the year.
Taiwanese publication DigiTimes is saying in a report this week that suppliers are now busy to fulfill the tablet components ordered by Microsoft. "Sources from the upstream supply chain claimed that the visibility of Microsoft's Surface 2-in-1 orders has already reached the end of 2015," the report said.
While the DigiTimes report did not specifically mentioned the Surface Pro 4 it hinted that the device components are for a 2015 model of a Surface 2-in-1 device, which is commercially known as the Surface Pro 3. If indeed a 2015 edition is already in the works, this will support the persistent rumors that Microsoft will soon unbox a laplet that will be called Surface Pro 4.
Blog reports are saying, among them well-known Microsoft watcher Paul Thurrott, that the Pro 4 will be revealed in the last few months of 2015 with October as the earliest possible touchdown date.
It appears too that Microsoft is very optimistic on the market prospect of its 2015 flagship tablet as the tech giant reportedly increased the volume of its SP4 orders compared to the Surface Pro 3 last year. "Microsoft's orders for new Surface 2-in-1 devices for fourth-quarter 2015 reportedly will be 50% higher than the volume during the same period a year ago," DigiTimes reported.
Microsoft's projection of better market performance for the Surface Pro 4 makes sense there are key factors working in favor of the Pro 3 sequel. First, the tablet will come out of the box flexing both the mobile and desktop prowess of Windows 10 that was rolled out in late July.
Experts have been saying that the Surface Pro 4 is the best device for Microsoft to show off the new powerful features deployed with Windows 10.
Then the SP4 outing will coincide with the supposed commercial debut of Intel's latest-generation processing chip - Skylake. With the new chip powering the Pro 4, the device is seen as a truly effective hybrid mobile device machine that delivers both on muscle and energy efficiency.
And to seal the deal for the Surface Pro 4, it is said that on release date the Windows 10 device is stamped with a more tempting sticker price than the Surface Pro 3 was. Starting price is expected to be no more than $500 while the top-tier configuration will sell at around $1300.
