Comebacks are always celebrated, especially if they concern screen legends.
Movie icon Brigitte Lin makes a comeback, not in the big screen, but via Hunan TV's reality show, “Up Idol.”
Lin was only 39 when she stopped accepting movie offers after marrying Hong Kong billionaire mogul Ying Lee Yuen (Michel Ying) in June 1994.
Now 60, Lin remains a sight to behold.
Women of China reported that Lin primarily joined the show to support her husband’s charity project, which focuses on building schools for poor children. Hunan TV is a supporter of the couple’s philanthropy.
Her last movie was in Taylor Wong’s 1994 action, “The Three Swordsmen,” opposite Andy Lau. As an unseen narrator, it can be said that Lin was last “heard” in two films both directed by Yonfan: “Bishonen” (1998) and “Peony Pavilion” (2011).
It was reported in 2012 that Lin was to appear in "Dragon's Kisses" (“Dragon Kiss”) to be directed by Zhang Yimou, but the project never materialized.
Ada Choi, Athena Chu and Yang Yu Ying also joined the show.
Choi, 41, last acted in Zhao Baogang’s 2014 suspense-romance, “One Step Away.” On TV, her last performance was in the 2013 drama, “Beauty at War.”
Chu, 43, last appeared in Ji Zhao Xin’s 2011 comedy, “Scary Market” (“Hey Shop”) and in Wong Jing’s wuxia TV series, “Twin of Brothers” broadcast by CCTV-1 from Aug. 8-10, 2011.
Yang, 42, was hailed by Chinese media in the ‘90s as "Queen of Sweet Songs." She left the limelight in 2000.
Ming Pao Daily News reported that Rosamund Kwan might be seen in the future episodes of “Up Idol.”
Kwan (“Once Upon a Time in China” series), 52, was last seen in Cheng Ding Jiang’s 2004 drama, “Hands in the Hair” together with Taiwanese actor-singer Wallace Huo.
A gathering of the brightest stars in one TV program?
Yes, it is happening and the amazing constellation can be seen in “Up Idol.”
