Google made Android M or version 5.2 official as early as the I/O developers gathering last May 2015 but the tech giant let the bit of operating system's name guessing game to continue. To date, no solid clues on what M really stands for exist.
But Googlers Nat and Lo changed that last week with a video teaser that suggested the likely names for the Android Lollipop sequel. First, the obvious was stated - that the next Android label is a sweet that starts with the letter M.
As pointed out by iDigitalTimes, M sticking is pretty rock solid because Google names its mobile operating system in a rigid pattern. Specifically, the labelling is in alphabetical order. For instance, Jelly Bean that starts on J was followed by KitKat (K) that in turn was replaced by Lollipop (L). So the active road sign points to the big M this time.
M, according to some reports, will be a generic sweet, meaning Google is not too keen on using a branded candy name like it did with KitKat.
But the same report by iDigitalTimes is saying that Nat and Lo were explicit enough on hinting the final Android M name - it is something that is associated with the color white. How come? The report highlighted how the Nat and Lo YouTube clip ended.
"The video ends with a scene of a man spray painting the bottom half of an Android statue white instead of the usual Android green color. This has led many to believe that the next Android operating system is Android Marshmallow," the report said.
Or Milkshake as it the drink is also white. Or any other sweet concoctions but really the point is Google has essentially whittled down the choices to two - M and white and both are sweet to the taste.
It is expected that Nat and Lo will out the final Android M revelation this week and to follow shortly is the rollout time. Now if rumors will prove accurate, the Android M release date is likely to happen at the same with that of the Google Nexus 2015, which is said to unpack in two models - the LG Nexus 5 2015 and the Huawei Nexus 6 2015 - in September.
