The Android M, now known as Android Marshmallow, will be for several Samsung devices from 2014 and 2015. The key Android M features for Samsung smartphones have been revealed through an official infographic from Samsung.
According to the Samsung's infographic, the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Duos, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 4 Duos, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, and Galaxy Tab A will be the first set of flagships from the South Korean tech giant that will receive the Android Marshmallow OS, GSM Arena reported.
Rumors also suggest that the newer flagships, the Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ will also receive Android M, You Mobile reported. The following are list of Android M features that will arrive for aforementioned smarpthones:
App Permissions
Android Marshmallow users will have the power to selectively assign several functions to different apps. For instance, if the user does not want WhatsApp to access the location, he can simply disable the location access feature for WhatsApp through App Permission settings.
Track Memory Consumption
This feature will help Android Marshmallow users to find which app is hogging on the memory on the device.
Fingerprint Support
Android M's inbuilt fingerprint support will allow users to unlock devices through fingerprint recognition. It can also be used to securely sign into different accounts on the device instead of manually entering login credentials.
Automatic Backup
Android can automatically backup the user data as well as settings of the device on Google Drive. For each app, it can store up to 25 MB of data.
Power Efficient
The Android M is more power efficient than the older Android Lollipop version. When the device is not in use for longer duration, Android Marshmallow will start its Doze mode feature to restrict background processes and thereby prevent the battery from exhausting quickly.
