Vin Diesel has hinted the title of the next "Fast and Furious" film.
In his speech at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night, Diesel gave a warm homage to his late friend Paul Walker. He also expressed his gratitude to Meadow Walker, Paul's teenage daughter, for serving as their inspiration during the film's production.
"I love all of you. I love all of you! And... until Fast 8," Diesel said during his speech.
While Diesel has just uttered a placeholder for a possible official title of the next muscle car racing film, "Fast 8" as a title could be logical, as per Cinema Blend. "Fast" was used in the franchise's marketing strategy since Justin Lin's "Fast Five" in 2011, but his sixth installment used "Fast & Furious 6," which deviated from its original title "Furious 6."
Following James Wan's "Fast and Furious 7," also known as "Furious 7," the title of the eight installment of the action car-racing title could diverge from its predecessors. Diesel suggested the upcoming film to be called "F8" or "Fate," which the franchise could integrate into its marketing promotion.
Aside from Diesel, "Fast and Furious 8" also stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, with Cody Walker rumored to play the role of Jack O'Conner. Neal H. Mortiz will also co-produce the film with Diesel and Gary Scott Thompson is on board to pen the screenplay of the film.
"Fast and Furious 8" is set in New York City, according to International Business Times. The film is not yet accessible to the big screen until 2017, so other details like additional cast members and exact plot details have yet to be confirmed.
Directed by Justin Lin, "Fast and Furious 8" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Apr. 14, 2017.
