"Fear The Walking Dead" is set to premiere on Aug. 23, Sunday, on AMC and the TV channel has clarified that it is not merely a prequel of "The Walking Dead."

There is a part at the beginning of the zombie outbreak in the "The Walking Dead" series premiere that was skipped over. The fall of humanity during this time period will be explored in "Fear The Walking Dead."

In a recent interview with Zap2it, "Fear the Walking Dead" star Alycia Debnam-Carey explained why the new AMC series is more than just a "The Walking Dead" sequel. Here are three of the reasons:

1.      The evolution of the "Fear the Walking Dead" characters is "not so immediate" and not as drastic as that of "The Walking Dead" characters.

2.      The "Fear the Walking Dead" characters are not rotten and not decomposed yet so they do not look like the zombies viewers are used to seeing in "The Walking Dead."

3.      The situation in "The Walking Dead," in which there is a sense that anybody including the main characters can die is not as severe in "Fear the Walking Dead."

In "Fear The Walking Dead," Debnam-Carey plays Alicia Clark, a high school senior in Los Angeles who is ready to graduate and get out of the city. The character is surrounded by a family drama involving her drug addict older brother (Frank Dillane) and her mother (Kim Dickens), who is dating a new boyfriend (Cliff Curtis).

Recently, "Fear The Walking Dead" show runner Dave Erickson told Entertainment Weekly that a long conversation was done before the announcement of the new AMC show's title but it was important to have "Walking Dead" in it.
