Who said video games are strictly for computer nerds with thick glasses and pocket protectors? Apparently, there are some really hot girls in gaming these days.
A group of ten girls-only teams have suit up for the DotA 2 Girls Super League, a tournament featuring the popular multiplayer online battle arena game, Defense of the Ancients 2 (DotA 2).
At stake is more than a US $20,000 prize pool.
Organized by ZhanqiTV, ten all-girl DotA 2 teams from China will battle it out to be called tournament champions. The winning team figures to be mighty wealthy by the end of it all.
According to GosuGamers.net, the tournament is divided into two segments, featuring online and offline play.
The online segment puts the ten teams against each other in a single round robin, with the winner of each match scoring a point. In the end, the team with the highest number of accumulated points wins.
In the offline segment, the victor of the round robin will battle the remaining teams in a "King of the Hill" format.
Each match in the offline segment of the tournament bags the winning teams US $1,500 each. In addition, the offline segment allows challengers to choose from various game modes including Deathmatch, OMG and AR (All Random).
The online tournament already commenced last August 18 and will run through until September 30, with a round robin series played every day. The offline tournament commences on October 9 and will run through until October 11, featuring three games per day.
Not only this, but the DotA 2 Girls Super League will also feature viewer games where a select group of viewers will get the chance to play against some of the invited teams. One viewer game challenge will be run per day. Winners of these games will garner $78 worth of in-game cash.
Quite a number of the all-girl teams participating are well known in the DotA 2 community, including LGD.Girls and Team MuLan, two very popular girl groups that play exceptionally well.
