Former unified flyweight world champion, Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria (36-4, 22 KO's), gets the opportunity of a lifetime as he takes on pound-for-pound staple and WBC world flyweight champion, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KO's). Viloria says his power is what will spell the difference in the highly anticipated fight.
In the co-main event to the Gennady "GGG" Golovkin versus David Lemieux middleweight showdown on October 17, Viloria and Gonzalez, two of boxing's finest champions will go head to head for 12 rounds to determine who is the better fighter once and for all.
"This is the fight that I've really been training for, not just for the last couple of weeks but for my entire career," said Viloria, who Yibada.com caught up with during the press conference in Los Angeles.
"It's a very dangerous fight and it's going to be a very competitive fight. I think whoever is going to come in shape and whoever is going to instill their gameplan onto the other person is going to be the winner of this fight."
Those accustomed to seeing heavyweight fighters sluggishly club each other with slow, controlled aggression in the ring need not be worried for a lack of action as generally, the sport's lighter weight fighters tend to fight at a faster pace.
"It's a great fight. I think it's fight that's going to have a lot of fireworks and a lot of punches being thrown," said Viloria.
"I don't think anyone will reach the final bell. I have the punching power, I know Roman Gonzalez has the punching power and whoever is going to inflict the most damage in this fight is going to be the winner."
Viloria is currently home in Los Angeles, training endlessly at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood under the close eye of Hall-of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach and protege, Filipino Marvin Somodio. Longtime cornerman Ruben Gomez is also with the team.
With everyone's help, Viloria can prepare himself for the fight of his life. His power, is what Viloria points to that will set him apart from previous Gonzalez opponents.
"I'm training myself to try to stop Roman Gonzalez. I'm going to try to knock him out. I know I have the punching power. I don't think he's ever fought a guy like me, a guy with the punching power and the speed that I possess. It's going to be hard for him to instill his gameplan in the fight."
