Following the recent leak that reveal a photo of the BlackBerry Venice running on the Android platform, a new leaked video shows a BlackBerry Passport running on Android Lollipop.
The video was posted on YouTube by Brazilian user Dudu Rocha Tec. In the video, the user used the BlackBerry Passport to cycle through the Android home screen, Google Play and the Android app drawer.
The Brazilian YouTube user used the Silver Edition of the BlackBerry Passport to run the Android Lollipop operating system. When the video went viral over several tech communities, many tech analysts suggest that this might open up the possibility of other BlackBerry smartphone owners tweaking their devices to run on the Android platform.
On the video, the user was able to retain the BlackBerry Passport option of scrolling the device's display by simply swiping the keyboard. From the looks of it, the user is running the BlackBerry device on an ordinary version of Android Lollipop.
According to Slash Gear, the usual Android apps were present as well as the BlackBerry Messenger. Based on the video, the BlackBerry Hub appears to be non-existent.
According to Pocket-Lint, the tweaked version of the BlackBerry Passport still retains some common features like the classic red BB star used as notifications icon for apps like Twitter. There is also an option to switch the phone's display to widescreen through a shortcut located in the phone's Quick Settings. In the video, this option was used to resize Chrome in order for the browser to fit the display better.
BlackBerry has yet to confirm this but the leaked video sparked speculations of a possible BlackBerry Passport running on Android. Industry analysts are still keen to know what the BlackBerry Venice will offer when it finally hit stores in November.
