The reviews are in and for the most part, the Galaxy Note 5 is very impressive, inside and out. Samsung, it turned out, has loads of tricks that will make the fifth original phablet installment the king in its realm.
Florence Ion of Green Bot recently examined the latest Samsung pride and ended up putting together good words. Ion concluded that with the Note 5, the South Korean tech giant is very much secured on its current role as the phablet king.
Here are the reasons why:
Really big but easier to handle
Packing a vibrant 5.7-inch screen profile, the Note 5 is not doubt a big toy but Ion assures that playing with it - using and handling it - is no pain at all. The build has been significantly trimmed down by eliminating the unnecessary heft. The stretched display, for instance, was pushed nearly to the left and right margins that virtually no bezels can be seen on the edges of the phone.
One-hand navigation remains possible because of the impressive device engineering applied on the Note 5, including the familiar button configuration that allows for easier operation that is especially true for long-time Note phablet users. Jumping into the Galaxy Note 5 will not require a huge adjustment at all.
Hardware performed as advertised
Like the Galaxy S6, the Note 5 gets mighty and fast with an 8-core 64-bit Exynos 7420 processing chip that taps into 4GB of RAM. Is the device a monster? Indeed it is, Ion said, scoring 4787 points in Geekbench testing.
As for the battery life, the device was tested with the Wi-Fi on and the data mobile chip active plus the location turned on. It lasted around eight hours that the reviewer said can be extended with the features mentioned above not in use. Or the battery meter can be drained real quick as well if the usage is on the heavy side like gaming and media playing. Overall, the power juice is decent for a battery rating that is lower than last year's Galaxy Note 4.
Bumped up S Pen
For the fifth iteration, the S Pen just got heavier in a positive way - it gives a feel of scrawling for real when in use. When in rest, the stylus looks but a button that hides at the bottom of the phone. As the hardware was upgraded so the software too with Ion noting that the Air Command got completely overhauled.
One neat function is the ability to write on the Note 5's sleeping screen and save the doc for later use.
Best camera just got better
As expected, Samsung carried over the winning camera formula used with the Galaxy S6 on to the Galaxy Note 5 but it is a case of the best camera smartphone that just got better. "Samsung didn't just copy and paste the camera sensor from the Galaxy S6 and leave it at that; it tossed in some neat new tricks in the camera app, including the ability to select the shutter speed," Ion said.
The phablet king
Everybody loves a winner and the best part of owning the Galaxy Note 5 is that users will have at their disposal the phablet king, which Ion said is the best hybrid phone that Samsung has ever produced. The key upgrade of the Note 5 is it is no longer a segment device. It has become an all-around phone that will prove its usefulness in every imaginable aspect - a killer camera, a mean gaming tool and a very productive instrument.
