In July, a dentist hunted and killed Cecil, a Lion in Zimbabwe. On August 23, an opposite story occurred. A lion attacked and killed a Safari guide at the same national park.
Quinn Swales, 40, was leading a group of tourist on a walking safari in Hwange National Park when the group came across six lions. One of the lions had cubs so the animals were hostile. The tour guide managed to scare the lions away, but a male lion returned to attack him.
Swales was able to ensure the safety his guests. While no other members of the group were hurt, Swales died from the injuries, Telegraph reported.
Swales was a highly qualified and experienced tour guide. Formerly a pilot, he hails from Trelawney in Northern Zimbabwe. On Aug. 10, he posted a photo of Cecil in his Facebook account.
Swales received praises from the members of the safari industry for his competence and dedication in protecting the lives of his guest, The Guardian reported.
Camp Hwange is a small safari company specializing in walking tours around the park. The zoo covers a wide area of Northwestern Zimbabwe. The tourist spot drew global attention after Cecil, a popular black-maned lion, was killed in July.
Zimbabwean authorities reported that Cecil was lured out of the park and killed in an illegal hunt. The hunt was requested and paid by Walter Palmer. Palmer received countless online blackmail and personal threats. The dentist denies having done anything wrong. He claims that he asked a professional to guide him in finding a prey.
