Microsoft's Cortana can now be downloaded on Android devices. The update was announced by Microsoft on Aug. 24. Although it is still in beta, Android users can now experience the intelligent personal assistant that Windows phone users have been enjoying for a while.
"The Cortana app on Android is the companion to your Windows 10 PC, extending Cortana's functionality across any device you carry, everywhere you go," the official Windows blog announced.
PC users who are already into Windows 10 has also been utilizing the voice controlled personal assistant that can set and sync reminders, get local news and weather plus answering questions using information from Bing. The phone version can place calls from the contact list and send out text messages, aside from the previous functions.
Android users who want to experience the same functionality of Cortana or replace Google Now can simply download the application from the Google Play Store. Users can also be a beta tester by signing-up at Google Play Store and making sure that you use the same Google Account that is linked to your Android device.
The Android version will not be incorporating the Hey Cortana wake up feature, which is the hands-free accessibility feature that is included in Windows 10, CNET reported.
Microsoft Cortana, which Android devices can now have in its system, is currently available to mobile users in the United States. Microsoft will definitely distribute the app to other regions in the near future as Cortana needs to conquer specific regions to maximize its usage.
