"Outlander" season 2 will reportedly be based on Diana Gabaldon's fourth book "Drums of Autumn." Contrary to earlier reports that the TV adaptation will chronicle Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) based on the order of the novels, it is now said that the series would jump to the fourth book's plot.
According to TV Line, "Outlander" executives have already started a casting call for Brianna, the daughter of Claire and Jamie in the series. Although Brianna was first mentioned in Gabaldon's second book "Dragonfly in Amber," it was later revealed that she followed her mother "back in time to find the father she never met and the family she never knew."
This plot twist, however, was only revealed in the fourth installment of the series. The showrunners admitted that the Brianna may have a bigger role in the upcoming season as compared to what Gabaldon previously written.
It was said that fans will get to meet Brianna as a fully grown woman in her 20s. She will also take Claire's future husband's surname, Randall and was apparently raised in Boston.
The publication noted that the casting directors are looking for a young actress who can portray the role of Brianna as "earthy, grounded and not girly." They are also looking for someone who effortlessly has an air of "inexperience and vulnerability."
According to Realty Today, "Outlander" season 2 may feature crossovers between the second and fourth books, following the big revelation of Brianna being able to travel back in time with Claire.
