As rumors persist that both the Apple iPad Air 2 and Google Nexus 8 tablets will not be refreshed this 2015 a better alternative emerged - the Samsung's Galaxy Tab S2. The device comes in two sizes, the 9.7-inch and the 8.0-inch that make them as direct iPad competitors.
With the new Tab S2, Samsung switched from 16:9 to 4:3 that rendered both models in boxy profile - familiar for long-time iPad users - but according to BGR, the beauty was not lost at all. Once out of the box, any of the Tab S2 will impress with its elegant and sexy build but is lighter and slimmer than before. The 9.7-inch, for instance, is a paperweight compared to the iPad Air 2, the same BGR report added.
The Tab S2 made great efforts to correct the missteps of last year and chief among them is the screen lagging experienced with the Tab S of 2014. Thanks to the tandem of Exynos 5433 and 3GB of RAM, the flagship tablets not only gained power but speed bumps. Samsung boasts that both the 8-inch and 9.7-inch models can handle multitasking with ease.
Per BGR, users can launch multiple windows - work on them, jump to and fro or just plain play around and the Tab S2 will oblige. No freezing and no bogging all because the slate is fired up by the same engine that Samsung had deployed with the Galaxy Note 4 last year. In short, the Tab S2 draws its power from one of the South Korean tech giant's phablet monster and the tablet has practically become one.
The Galaxy Tab S2 is vibrant because of Samsung's signature Super AMOLED display screen that is responsible for the 2048 x 1536 resolution of the 9.7-inch edition. Despite the rich and super-clear display rendering, the Tab S2 is expected to deliver longer operating hours as the power juice is extracted from a massive 5870mAh battery.
And like the firs Galaxy Tab S, the 2015 version benefits from an enhanced fingerprint sensor technology that BGR said "feels a little more responsive than the Touch ID on ... iPad Air 2."
The camera system that came on board is decent enough - 8MP on the rear and 2.1MP on the front-facing shooter.
And the best part, all the power and premium packed by Samsung with the Galaxy Tab S2 will not cause major cash damage. Starting price is $400 for the 8-inch model and $500 for the 9.7-inch, both with basic 32GB internal memory with up 128GB of extra memory and Wi-Fi access. A 64GB flavor of the bigger Tab S2 will cost $600 on Best Buy.
