The famous TV series titled "Sons of Anarchy" is developing a new spin-off following its successful season finale. This time, the spotlight of the crime TV series will not be on Jackson Teller and SAMCRO, but instead the plot will focus on the Mayan Motorcycle Club.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, series creator Kurt Sutter is indeed developing a spin-off for "Sons of Anarchy," although it is still not known whether it will be a prequel or a sequel to the original TV series. It is also confirmed that the spin-off's story will focus on the Mayan Club, headed by Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera).
In the original show, Alvarez' Oakland-based group composed of Mexican-Americans, was involved in operating heroin factories while being connected with the prostitution industry. Also known as "Assassins of God," the motorcycle club played a key role in the original crime TV series because they were considered as an opponent of SAMCRO. However, the two rival groups eventually developed a not-so-strong relationship in business, crime, and turf wars.
It remains to be seen if some the original members of SAMCRO such as Jackson Teller (Charlie Hunnam), Filip Telford (Tommy Flanagan), and Alexander Trager (Kim Coates) will reprise their respective roles in the upcoming spin-off.
As of today, no further details or story updates have been revealed by Sutter while the planned spin-off is yet to find its own writer. Currently, Sutter is more focused on his upcoming show titled "The Bastard Executioner," which is a medieval-themed drama starring Lee Jones, Katey Sagal, Stephen Moyer and Ed Sheeran. Even Sutter himself will make an appearance to the historical TV series, making him very occupied for the meantime.
According to Rolling Stone, "Sons of Anarchy" is a story about the adventures of a motorcycle gang called SAMCRO which stands for "Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original." The group is based in Charming, California and their main goal is to protect and control their town while dealing with other rival gangs.
First aired on September 2008, the crime TV series was able to produce seven successful seasons in the span of six years, making it one of the most famous TV franchises on FX. Furthermore, "Sons" was able to maintain stable viewership ratings, having its peak during third season when the show became the highest-rated TV series on FX. "Sons" also attracted an enormous 9.2 million viewers on its Season 7 finale.
"Sons of Anarchy" spin-off will be produced by FX Productions and Fox 21 Televisions.
