Justin Kerzel's video game-based film "Assassin's Creed" is assumed to be pivotal to the franchise's future.
The "Assassin's Creed" franchise hosted a live question and answer on Twitter on Aug. 28.
Twitter user Katie tweeted a question, asking how the mutual universe would affect the franchise's film and games. Ubisoft Content Head Aymar Azaizia tweeted on the franchise's status, replying that its products are linked into a single universe and the elements in Kerzel's upcoming film will put a major impact to the franchise's books, comics, and games.
According to Bleeding Cool, Kerzel's "Assassin's Creed" will not be a film adaptation of any of its previous titles. The film is set to unfold a new narrative with a brand new character, who lives in a universe similar to the one in the games. This approach benefits the earlier versions of the game, as the film plot could give clarity to any questions fans and gamers might have about the game.
Michael Fassbender will play the lead role in the film. Along with him, "Assassin's Creed" also stars Marion Cotillad and Michael Kenneth William. Fassbender will be joined by "Attenberg" star Ariane Labed, who will play the role initially rumored to be portrayed by "Ex Machina" star Alicia Vikander, as per Deadline. Vikander reportedly dropped "Assassin's Creed" for a role in an upcoming "Bourne" film.
With director Kurzel set to helm the film, Michael Lesslie, Adam Cooper, and Bill Collage are on board to pen the film screenplay. Jean-Julien Baronnet, Patrick Crowley, Jean di Rivieres, Frank Marshall, Conor McCaughan, and Arnon Milchan will co-produce the film.
Kurzel's "Assassin's Creed" is slated to premiere in theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
