Taiwanese actress Brigitte Lin, also known as Lin Ching Hsia, participated in her first fashion runway during the Aug. 29 episode "When Idols Become Supermodels" of the Chinese reality show "Up Idol."
The episode saw Lin, along with the other female celebrities in the show, collaborating to put up a fashion show on a runway.
In a rare moment of nervousness and stage fight, the 40-year film and television veteran was seen pacing backstage and bracing herself against a wall, making deep breaths.
For the fashion show, Lin wore a red evening gown by a Chinese designer. She said that, as soon as she stepped out in front of the audience of 300, she told herself, "This isn't a game."
Being her first fashion runway experience, Lin noted that she emulated professional runway models and wore no expression on her face.
After the walk, Lin wrote a personal essay that opened with the line, "Perhaps the idol that people know had disappeared, but the real me had arrived."
She also mentioned in her essay that despite 40 years in the entertainment business, she still fears the camera whenever she has to step in front of it, but after taking part in "Up Idol," she no longer fears the spotlight.
Lin added, "I stopped caring whether I was good-looking, what people said about me. I think it's because I've accepted my true self, so I paid no mind to how I presented myself to others."
"Up Idol" is a reality show produced by Hunan TV, which stars 10 actresses, with a wide range of ages, participating in a series of challenges. The show began airing on July 25.
Other actresses included in the show are Yan Yuying, Athena Chu, Ning Jing, Ada Choi, Xie Na, Zhao Liying, Kristy Zhang, Gul Nazha and Nana Ouyang.
