A 29-year old British boxer named 'Rockin' Robin Deakin has had 53 professional fights since debuting in 2006, but has only managed to win a whopping two times -- his first fight, and years later, after 51 straight losses, his most recent fight.
Deakin has been called the 'Britain's worst boxer' for years. He won his professional debut back in 2006, but embarked on an appalling 51-fight losing streak shortly after.
Deakin has traveled all across the United Kingdom and has kept at boxing for years despite consistently coming up short, and he never gave up hope that one day, he'll finally get back in the winner's circle.
That moment came last August 29, at York Hall in London, when he beat Deniss Kornilovs by decision in a four round light welterweight bout. Deakin was ecstatic.
"I'm a fighter. I'm going to fight my way back to the top -- you'll see," Deakin said in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
After the win, Deakin nicknamed himself the 'real life Rocky,' referencing the fictional movie character boxer, Rocky Balboa, portrayed by Sylvester Stallone.
Balboa had a similar run, losing a plethora of fights before winning late in his career. Deakin feels energized after nearly a decade long devoid of victory.
"All those people that called me 'Britain's worst boxer' can eat their words -- they just made me punch harder," said Deakin. "People saying I'm the worst made me stronger. I did everything different this time and worked my hardest -- and it showed. I'm over the moon."
Deakin once had his professional boxing license terminated because officials were worried about his health and safety, thinking that he would never win. In his victory over Kornilovs a few days ago, Deakin was operating under a boxing license he obtained from Malta.
With a victory after 51 straight losses, 12 of which were knockout losses, he certainly got people's attention. Next thing you know, he'll challenge Floyd Mayweather himself.
