Google will officially name its 2015 flagship as the Nexus 5X following months of being referred to as the Nexus 2015. According to a new report, Google Play Store will start selling the vanilla Android phone on September 29 - set as its release date.
Citing unnamed sources, Android Authority boldly confirmed that the Nexus 2015 is debuting via the Play Store beginning on September 29. The same blog report also indicated that two models are coming on the same day though it was unclear how the other handset, presumably coming from Huawei, will be called.
In the past months, reports used LG Nexus 5 2015 for the 5.2-inch model that was codenamed Bullhead. The Huawei version was labelled as the Nexus 6 2015 that reportedly was internally known as Angler.
Regardless, Android Authority reported that as promised the next Nexus will be significantly cheaper than the Nexus 6 of 2014. The Motorola-assembled device originally retailed at $650 that according to experts turned away many Nexus fans. To correct the perceived mistake, the Play Store will display the Nexus 5X starting at $400 or $250 less from last year's model.
Another misstep is the oversized Nexus 6 profile at 5.99-inch. The 5.2-inch LG-made Nexus 5X is seen as Google's huge adjustment on this matter. It should be noted, however, the Huawei Nexus is a full-sized phablet but Android Authority did not touch on how much the bigger Nexus will initially sell.
There were reports that Google is not exceeding the $500 for this year's Nexus push so the price expectation for the Nexus phablet is between $450 and $500.
The same Android Authority report also affirmed that most of the speculated specs of the Nexus 2015 are correct, meaning the Nexus 5X will be powered by a Snapdragon 808 chip with up to 3GB of RAM and the storage options range from 16GB to 32GB.
But considered as the banner feature upgrade of the Nexus 2015 is a camera system that boasts of 12.3MP on rear and 5MP on front, the blog post added. The combo is in line with the 2015 smartphone camera. Most flagships are going beyond the 12MP-mark in the main and at least 5MP for the selfie-capturing secondary shooter. Among the notable smartphone camera kings are the Moto X 2015 from Motorola, the Galaxy Note 5 from Samsung and even the twin iPhone 6S and 6S Plus from Apple.
The report did not mention a Google unveiling for the Nexus 2015 though it reiterated that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will run the show. The device on release date will also come in white, black and light blue color choices.
