Justin Bieber is the new king of Spotify. He dethroned One Direction after his "What Did You Mean?" single got 21 million streams in five days.

The record-holder for the most streams in a debut week used to be 1D whose "Drag Me Down" single logged 20 million streams during its first week of release in July, reports Mashable. "Drag Me Down" was One Direction's first release after Zayn Malik left the group whose members are also going on a one-year hiatus from the popular British boy band.

The Canadian singer also broke records in iTunes as it became No. 1 five minutes after the song was released. On YouTube, the music video has over 26 million hits since it was posted on Sunday after the VMAs where Bieber cried.

Explaining his tears at the VMA, Bieber told talk show host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, "I worked so hard at the album. I've worked so hard at just becoming the man that I want to become and then stepping up into situations that you can't helped but be judged."

Those situations became headlines the past few months such as his butt selfie at Bora Bora that beat Kim Kardashian's behind magazine cover, being caught in a prostitution den and illegal drugs, and brushes with the law for spray-painting walls in other countries.

Even some Bieber bashers are now convinced that the once bad boy has changed. In the comments section of YouTube's post "What Do You Mean?" Shoderux wrote: "I don't hate this guy anymore."

Okela Sylvester added, "I'm actually giving him a chance too cause really he is trying to change and the music now is much better so I can forgive him." Samuel Key observed that in the song, Justin does not sound like a girl.

Given the strong performance of "What Do You Mean?" the tracks is expected to be No. 1 also on Billboard Hot 100. The album is scheduled for release in November, according to the Verge.
