"X-Men" actor Hugh Jackman is interested to play the role of the iconic super spy 007 James Bond.
Jackman has previously revealed that James Mangold's upcoming "Wolverine" sequel will be his last film as the adamantium-clawed mutant. In his recent interview with The Program, the Australian actor said that he would earnestly consider taking over the Bond's cloak in a film.
According to the interview, Jackman revealed that he was tapped by the producers of the Bond series prior to approaching Daniel Craig, who currently has Bond's mantle in Sam Mendes' action thriller film "Spectre." However, Jackman said that he could not commit to the role, since he was attached to play his iconic mutant role Wolverine.
For Jackman, passing the chance to play super spy 007 and don his tux was seriously hard, but he might not walk away from the role if he is given again the opportunity. Meanwhile, Craig recently told Esquire that he had a life and it was time for him to start living it, which suggests that his tenure as 007 is about to fold. If this happens, then the "Spectre" actor might leave the role to Jackman in the future.
Jackman is set to appear and join Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jenniefer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Lucas Till, among others, in Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse," which serves as the final film under the "X-Men: First Class" film series. Meanwhile, Craig is set to appear in Mendes' "Spectre," along with Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, and Christopher Waltz, among others.
Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to hit theaters in the United States on May 27, 2016 while Mendes' "Spectre" is slated to premiere on Nov. 6. Meanwhile, Mangold's untitled "Wolverine" sequel will premiere on Mar. 3, 2017.
