Comedian Joan Rivers' daughter Melissa Rivers has revealed that it has been a difficult time for her family as they mark the first anniversary of the passing of her mother.

Having risen to fame in the 1960s, Rivers passed away at the age of 81, following procedural complications she underwent during surgery on her vocal chords.

The new co-host of "Fashion Police," Rivers posted a poignant photo message on her mother's Twitter page on Sept. 4 the day she passed away saying the year without her has been one of many firsts for the family.

The 47-year-old producer shared the "firsts" that she and her son Cooper 14, have endured during the year including holidays and birthdays without her mother.

In the message that she tweeted, she said, "Today marks one year since my mother passed. This was the year of firsts: first holidays, first birthdays, first everythings without mom, without grandma."

The young mother admitted while the grieving process has been difficult she has been grateful for the support and the outpouring of kindness from friends, family and those whose lives have been touched by the woman they knew as "Joan -- a woman we all miss so very much."

Recently Rivers hosted a tribute show to mark the sad event of her mother's passing on a program that was aired on E!.

The program which ran for an hour featured the popular comic's best moments. Some of the flashbacks featured Big Sean, Ellie Kemper and Kris Jenner in the segment as well.

According to the Daily Mail, Rivers said she keeps the memory of her mother alive by talking about her and recalling her memory constantly with her son.

Earliar on Rivers revealed that she and Cooper scatter her mother's ashes in Wyoming while on holiday. Rivers said that her mother's ashes were scattered during the annual family vacation so that the family can still remain together every year during the holidays, Times Live reported.
