In the course of the first two seasons, "The Blacklist" has sustained the attention of the audience because of the spectacular performance of Reddington "Red" (James Spader) amid cancellations of its crime drama/thrillers like "The Following" and "Hannibal."

"The Blacklist" season 3 storyline will mainly focus on the hunt for Liz (Megan Boone) and Red who are on the run, TVLine reported. The season will result into a more serialized approach than the show has conventionally employed to convey its story. Apart from the self-contained story components, the hit TV show will develop the relationship between Red and Liz, according to creator Jon Bokenkamp.

Bokenkamp said, "There's a really strange and powerful dynamic that [Red and Liz] have. Their resources are so incredible, and they complement each other in a really nice way."

Executive producer John Eisendrath also added that when season 3 first begins, "we are focused entirely on the present." The implication is that fans who are expecting for more insight into Liz's relationship with Red and their shared background will have to be patient for longer to get answers.

While the show has a tendency of extending its major mysteries, a shift towards a more serialized and perhaps more cohesive storyline strategy could bring "The Blacklist" a step closer to resolving some of the eminent issues, Screenrant noted.

Currently, some fans may be getting tired of the "more questions than answers" strategy the show has concentrated on so far. From an industry perspective, the timing for a more serialized "Blacklist" season plot could not be better. The Netflix model has definitely changed the way many fans are used to understanding their TV entertainment.

"The Blacklist" season 3 returns on Oct. 1, Thursday on NBC at 9 p.m.
