"Solace" is a 2015 American mystery thriller film directed by Afonso Poyart.


The plot revolves around a retired doctor John Clancy played by Anthony Hopkins, who possess extrasensory abilities and a brutal serial killer Charles Ambrose played by Colin Farrell.

The doctor, who has the ability to look into the future teams up with a veteran FBI colleague, Joe Merriwether played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan to track down the killer before he takes any more lives. The hunt leads to a showdown between the two who can detect each other's every move with their superhuman perceptive skills.

Clancy eventually realizes that Ambrose also has psychic abilities and that are better than his own.  Furthermore, the doctor discovered that all the victims were suffering from diseases.  In which the patients were destined to die an excruciating death, whether they knew it or not.  

Finally, Ambrose appears on the screen and the conversation sets up dealing with issues such as the pros and cons of mercy killing. Clancy and Ambrose are fully betrothed in a game in which the killer is winning. The climax is a spellbinding war of words in a subway carriage between the protagonist and antagonist.

The suspense thriller is written by Peter Morgan of "The Queen" fame and Sean Bailey of Disney is worth watching. The story is based on an idea by "Ocean's Eleven" writer Ted Griffin.  Afonso Poyart filmed the thriller on location in Atlanta in the summer of 2013 as reported by Hollywood Reporter.

It was written by Peter Morgan and Sean Bailey from a story by Ted Griffin. The film also stars Abbie Cornish, Matt Gerald, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Kenny Johnson and Sharon Lawrence.

"Solace" will be released on Sept. 9 in France and on Sept. 25 in UK theaters. There is no US date confirmed yet.

The Internet Movie Database reported that "Solace"  is rated R for violence and bloody images throughout, sexuality, nudity, and language. The movie's rating is 7.3/10 from 247 users.
