"X-Men: Apocalypse" screenwriter Michael Doughtery has shared his thoughts on the titular supervillain Apocalypse in Bryan Singer's upcoming Marvel Comics film.
In his interview with IGN, Doughtery said that Apocalypse was determined to dominate the world, with a "heart" that fans can all connect with. For the "X-Men: Apocalypse" screenwriter, the thought that the supervillain comes from a realm in which mutants were gods and were not a mistreated population was enthralling.
With Singer's previous photos and videos on his official Twitter and Instagram accounts, fans have become aware that Apocalypse's return to human's world is geared toward mass destruction, which can be viewed as similar to Ultron's disposition of exterminating humanity in Joss Whedon's "Avengers: Age of Ultron." For Apocalypse, he opted to recuit mutants as his Four Horsemen to help him actualize his plans.
Doughtery also told IGN the possible future of the "X-Men" franchise. The screenwriter said that once a character has been introduced into a new "X-Men" film, such as young Jean Grey, the film is assumed to go to certain directions. Since Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" altered the timeline and "X-Men: Apocalypse" will boot it up, the production team has the chance to create new storylines, as per Screen Rant.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" stands as the final installment in the "X-Men: First Class" film series and stars Ian McKellen, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Lucas Till, Ben Hardy, Evan Peters, Lana Condor, Olivia Munn, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tye Sheridan, Rose Byrne, Josh Helman, and Oscar Isaac, among others.
Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 27, 2016.
