Director Ridley Scott has shared what ignited his interest in his upcoming sci-fi film "The Martian."
In his interview with Deadline at the Toronto International Film Festival, Scott said that the source material is the core of how he made his sci-fi film. The director added that while it was challenging to get the story right, everything would be easy and satisfying once the story was put on paper. For Scott, Drew Goddard's script contains the elements he was looking for, enabling him to take an action easily.
Scott's "The Martian" is worthy of being nominated as one of the best movies this year, as per Movie News Guide. Along with the themes of science, creativity, seclusion, and subsistence, Scott's film showcases a prodigious and scientifically radical space epic. While it was adapted from Andy Weir's novel of the same name, Scott revealed that the script was so upright that he did not read the book.
"The Martian" centers on astronaut Mark Watney as he gets casted on mars following a windstorm. The incident prompts the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) team to make a move to save Watney. The film stars Mackenzie Davis, Donald Glover, Michael Peña, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, and Matt Damon as Watney.
With Scott directing the film, Goddard is on board to pen the film script. Simon Kinberg, Mark Huffam, Michael Schaefer, and Aditya Sood are set to co-produce the film.
Directed by Scott, "The Martian" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Oct. 2.
