Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the giant social network is currently working on the “dislike” button.
During a Q&A session at Facebook HQ in California, Zuckerberg stated that the upcoming button is a way of people in giving empathy to other people, events, or situation. He added that his company is now getting closer to having it ready for user testing. Previous reports said that Facebook was considering alternatives to ‘liking’ something, and this is the first time that the company is shifting to “dislike” button for the users.
Since introduction of the now-iconic "like" button in 2009, Some of the Facebook users have been requesting the Menlo Park, California-based social network company to put up a "dislike" button. Zuckerberg added that this is the special day for the social network users because of the good news about this most requested button.
Zuckerberg clearly stated that the “dislike” button is not about fostering negativity compared to Reddit and Youtube’s downvote buttons. The button is all about expressing empathy towards something. Advocates of the “dislike” button stated that a “like” button is not really appropriate for specific post such as refugee crisis and worldwide hunger, according to Business Insider. They said that people can actually express accurately their emotions without putting comment.
Facebook may possibly work on a wide range of reactions, appropriate for each and every situation, The Next Web reported. The social network giant has apparently been working on it for quite some time, and it wants to make interactions simple and easy.
Zuckerberg and the team working on the “dislike” button are hoping that the new feature may begin public testing soon.
